The July 2008 Fanningzine® is now available in our downloads section!
Sorry it took so long to get this out, but my laptop broke and they just sent me a replacement one. :)
In this issue, we have your favorite Dakota movies, as well as a Quiz that DAKOTAFAN made.
This month's question is "What is your favo[u]rite Elle movie?", so be sure to send in your responses ASAP.
The August issue will be out next week. LOL!
We took out the horoscopes this issue because it is so late in the month, but we will have them next time.
No longer in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
"It looks like Dakota is no longer in the cast of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Saoirse Ronan has been cast to play the title character, Charlotte and Dakota’s name isn't listed in the cast anymore. For more about the movie, check Empire's site."
The Secret Life of Bees will make it’s world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, which runs September 4 through 13. Ticket packages for TIFF08 are now available for purchase at TIFF08’s site.
Dakota will attend the San Diego Comic-Con 2008, on Tuesday, July 24 with the cast of Push. Summit Pictures-Summit Entertainment presents a sneak peek of exclusive footage of some of its upcoming major film releases, incluing Push. Dakota, Chris Evans, Djimon Hounsou, Camilla Belle and director Paul McGuigan present a first look at exclusive footage and answer questions about the film.
FILMINK Magazine visited the set of Nutcracker: The Untold Story when it was filming last year and have an article about it in their current issue. The article is short but luckily for us peppered with some pretty cute details, like the fact that Elle is writing a novel, and owns four dollhouses. You can read it here.
EDIT BY STEPHANIE: My laptop won't turn on! I lost all my stuff! :( I am sending it to the repair shop. Hopefully it will be back soon. I'll get the magazine as soon as I can.
A friend of mine made an astute observation the other day. He told me that whenever he attends a film festival, he realizes that nearly all of the movies that sound promising at first end up being duds. Instead, it's the films with the most pedestrian of plots that delight audiences and make a real impact.
Phoebe in Wonderland, which screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival last Saturday, falls into the latter category. In the movie, Bill Pullman and Felicity Huffman play the parents of the highly imaginative Phoebe (Elle Fanning, Dakota's younger sister), who is showing symptoms of Tourette syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder. They seek the help of a psychiatrist, who wants to put Phoebe on medication -- but, her parents ask, will doing so stifle Phoebe's creative spirit? After all, couldn't her eccentricities just be childhood quirks that'll pass with time?
"In this age of pharmacology, there are a lot of doctors who say children should be on medicine," said Pullman, who attended the screening, along with Fanning and Daniel Barnz, the film's writer and director. "An incredible number of families are facing this question, and without a lot of preparation. They weren't raised in an era in which, if you have a child who's a little jumpy, you got a pill for it."
This is the issue at the heart of Phoebe in Wonderland, a surprisingly assured directing/writing debut from Daniel Barnz, who has crafted a complex but never manipulative story about the difficulties of parenting and the insecurities of childhood. And the audience appeared to eat it right up. I should mention, though, that this was not your ordinary group of festival-goers. The theater was filled with the winners of Nabisco's "Celebrating 100 Extraordinary Women," contest, which was co-sponsored by Time Inc. (EW's parent company). The contest allowed people to nominate women whose everyday actions made "an extraordinary impact on the lives of those around them," and the 100 winners were flown out to L.A. to participate in the film festival and other events. Here's hoping wider audiences are similarly enthusiastic about this little drama with an unwieldy title and atypical storyline when it hits theaters in September. And check out a short clip of the film, embedded after the jump!
Elle attended the 2008 Los AngelesFilm Festival’s "Phoebe in Wonderland" screening at the Majestic Crest Theatre yesterday (June 28), in Westwood, California. She looks absolutely adorable in the pictures, so make sure to check them out in the (Totally Elle) gallery.
As you can tell, I decided to switch to PHP-Fusion version 7 a few days early. The old themes do not work and have been removed. If you want the new theme to be centered, you can edit your profile and choose the "Gillette Centered" theme. It's the same as the one now except everything is centered (width 800, like the banner). You may also try out the other themes to see if you like one of them better.
The news, shoutbox, forums, and private messages are all intact. The chat room is also still working (I thought it would break) and so is the photo gallery. I have a record of how much gold each person had, so when the usergold v3 (for PHP-Fusion 7) comes out, I'll get it back to normal.
The German new service 'Reuters' has not given a very good review to Dakota's film "Winged Creatures", but at least we know what Dakota's part is in the film:
There's a special sneak peak article about The Secret Life of Bees in the new People magazine that comes out today (6/27). It contains new pictures from the set of the film including one of Dakota with the other Boatwright sisters. :)
